IRINA BOGDAN

My path as a designer and an architect started in 2004, the year i began my studies at the University of Architecture and Urbanism “Ion Mincu” in Bucharest. Four years later i had the chance to explore and experiment new notions of spatial design during the one year master course program, immersed in the interdisciplinary medium offered by the Dessau Institute of Architecture - Bauhaus, Germany. Every step that followed, revealed new conceptual and formal subtleties that lead to explorations and new collaborations in the field of digital design and computer aided fabrication. A deep fascination for the seemingly infinite sensorial investigations drove me to the field of interactive design.

I have organized and tutored workshops that introduced students and enthusiasts to the techniques of digital design and co-founded the Technology_Architecture_Innovation Collective (T_A_I) in Bucharest. Later on i had the chance to collaborate with the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (Die Universität für angewandte Kunst, Wien) and organised a series of introductory workshops: the Spring Challenge followed by the Architectural Challenge (2012). At the end of 2012 i had the wonderful chance to partner up with the artists from Modulab (Art and Technology Laboratory, Bucharest). Following this series of creative interactions, i dived into the architectural world and worked with UNStudio for four years and a half as an architectural designer, while living in Shanghai and exploring Hong Kong.

The curiosity of discovering what lies behind the architectonic qualities of space and spatial design lead me to venture into the world of product design and art. In a compulsive drive to strip environment of its weight while letting time play an effervescent role in the perception of built space, i have started to research the performative and ephemeral qualities of temporary structures. Along with Deepak Jawahar we have explored a series of interactive instances of product design and we have exhibited the “Slow Door” project at the Milan Design week in 2016, as panel finalists for the Lexus Design Award.

The curiosity of the ephemeral and spatial definition through movement lead me to develop a strong interest for choreography and dance.

I am currently living in Berlin and i am collaborating with Studio Tomás Saraceno.
I am thriving for future interdisciplinary collaborations with artists, local artisans, scientists, dancers, choreographers, scenographers and creative people from all fields in order to create spaces of interaction and unforeseen ventures.
