INTERACTIVE DESIGN WORKSHOP SERIES powered by Modulab
At the end of 2012 a new revolution started for a hand full of enthusiastic designers and electronic device lovers: an Arduino Interactive Design Series.
Modulab came up with (yet another) brilliant idea: taking the passionately, absorbed-over-the-years know-how and share it with the world. The whole plan took the shape of a series of workshops meant to introduce the participants to elementary notions of electronics, physics and Arduino scripting.
Here's info on some of the electronic components we've used (_RO):
The first workshop tackled with the basics of interactive design by making everyone familiar with the notions of micro-controllers, servomotors, sensors and other electronic components any toddler should be familiar with. In the end everyone had to come up with an idea and concentrate all the accumulated knowledge into a working, reactive installation.
Andrei Padure came up with TOURETTE: a light sensor, eye mimicking, servo powered installation:
Bunduche Inga scratched the surfaced of the fashion design industry and tackled with fabric, hard geometric elements and light sensors:
Andrei Ivanescu (head master at Gradinita de Grasshopper) and Laura Iosub used 6 coolers to pump up a 6 legged inflatable plastic foil organism:

Modulab developed a light responsive tentacle, light up by 30 leds and powered by two servomotors:

Other two workshops are planned for the beginning of 2013:
The first one is going to focus mostly on parametric design and digital fabrication - as creative support and interface for interactivity.
The second workshop is going to sum it all up and put the power in the hands of the beholders: the participants are challenged to gather all the information learned in the previous trainings and use it - along with all their handy skills, to create and fabricate a 1:1 scale interactive installation. The event will be followed by a public exhibition. Everyone's invited!
