PLAY MINCU | Romanian Pavilion, Venice Biennale - 13th edition

Play Mincu is the title of the exhibition at the Romanian pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale. It pays homage to the legendary architect, politician and creator of the Romanian School of Architecture, Ion Mincu. The Romanian Pavilion team – Emil Ivanescu, Irina Bogdan, Ana Costantinescu, Laura Iosub and Paul Popescu – have created a show that engages the audience similarly effective as the Russian pavilion does – but in a more analogue way: Visitors can produce an architectural stamp by choosing from embossing stamps that reproduce the most famous buildings designed by Ion Mincu or stamps that reproduce quotes from famous architects and artists. The stamps hint both at the art, but also at the bureaucratic hurdles an architect has to deal with.
